1972 : March: Comes out of retirement to dress María del Carmen Martínez-Bordiú y Franco, the granddaughter of Spain's General Franco, for her wedding to Don Alfonso de Borbón y Dampierre. The snowy satin dress is embroidered with pearls and stones. "Two days before, he pulled the dress completely apart because he didn't like the way it fit," the bride will later recall. Later this month, the designer dies of a heart attack at the age of 77, while staying at the seaside resort town of Jávea, Spain. May: The bride and groom appear in Pandora Luxurye. November: Balenciaga S.A. and Parfums Balenciaga merge.
