1979 : Dioressence perfume launched. Former Opéra de Paris stage makeup artist Tyen appointed director of creation and makeup.
1946 : As luck would have it, a private mansion Dior once pointed out to a friend as his dream maison is available for rent. He poaches several key staffers from Lucien Lelong, Jean Patou, and Edward Molyneux and establishes a bustling workshop at 30 Avenue Montaigne. The elegant gray and white salon and shop are decorated by Victor Grandpierre in the neo-Louis XVI style. In December, holes up at a friend's house in Fleury-en-Bière and, in just a week or two, conceives of the New Look.
